Before Your Appointment
There are a few things you need to do before your appointment:
Some insurance companies require a referral before you can be seen. If so make sure your primary care physician sends us one. If possible, bring a copy of the referral to your appointment.
Make sure your referral includes x-rays, injections, braces, slings, and any other treatment that you may need.
Make sure any x-rays, MRI's, medical reports, etc., that you may already have, are sent to our office. If at all possible, it may be best to bring them with you.
Be sure to bring your insurance card with you, so that we can make a copy of it.
Please have all medical information available (current medical conditions, allergies, medications, past surgeries, etc.).
If possible, print and fill out our new patient forms and bring them with you to your appointment. This will save you time when you check in on the day of your appointment.
If you are being seen for a knee problem, bring or wear shorts so that your knees can easily be examined during your appointment.
If you are being seen for a shoulder problem wear a tank top or sports bra so that your shoulder can easily be examined during your appointment.
Your Initial Visit
Upon your arrival, our receptionist will greet you. She will copy your insurance card, make sure we have your referral (if needed), collect your co-payment, gather any medical records, x-rays, MRI's, etc. that you may have, and give you a couple of patient forms to fill out (unless you brought them with you already filled out).
Once you have completed the check-in process, one of our medical assistants will take you back to an exam room. First, she will take a medical history and then she will take you to get x-rays. Upon returning from the x-ray department, you will change into a gown or pair of shorts, depending on what part of the body is to be examined.
Once you have changed, Dr. Grutter will review your history, complete your physical exam and review the x-rays and MRI's with you. He will discuss your diagnosis and treatment options with you, and will answer all of your questions.
Prior to you leaving, one of our staff will make sure that you have everything you need. This may include physical therapy prescriptions, medication prescriptions, work releases, treatment protocols, etc. Our receptionist will make your follow-up appointment for you
